When to replace

Time for a new AC?

It’s more than 12 to 15 years old.

South Florida works an AC harder than almost anywhere. Most don’t last much past that.

It needs a major repair.

A compressor or a coil on an older system can cost a big share of a new one.

The repairs keep coming back.

If we’ve been out twice this summer, it’s time to run the numbers.

Your power bill keeps climbing.

Older systems lose efficiency every year. A new one can bring the bill back down.

Some rooms never cool.

Hot rooms usually point to a sizing or duct problem. A new system is the time to fix it.

It still runs on R-22.

R-22 refrigerant has been phased out in the US, so recharging an old system gets more expensive every year.

Not sure? We’ll tell you straight, and price a repair and a replacement side by side.

Options

Which system fits?

Central AC

Cools the whole house through your existing ducts. It’s the usual choice when you’re replacing an old system. We check the ducts too, because a new unit on leaky ducts wastes money.

Ductless mini-splits

No ducts needed. One outdoor unit runs one or more quiet wall units. Good for additions, garages, converted rooms, bedrooms that run hot and older homes.

Heat pumps

An AC that also heats. It cools all year and warms the house on the few cold nights, with one system.

Measured first.
Then sized.

Sizing

Bigger isn’t better

An AC that’s too big cools the room fast, then shuts off before it pulls the moisture out, so the house feels cold and damp. One that’s too small runs all day and never catches up. We measure your space, windows, insulation and how much sun the house gets before we recommend a size. Square footage alone gets it wrong.

Efficiency

Efficiency, in plain English

Every new AC has a SEER2 rating. A higher number costs more up front and less every month. In South Florida, where the AC runs most of the year, a more efficient system pays itself back faster than it would up north. We show you the price and the expected savings for each option, side by side.

Install day

What install day looks like

  1. We confirm the day and time, then show up when we say we will.
  2. We protect your floors and furniture before anything comes out.
  3. We take out the old system and haul it away.
  4. We install the new one, seal it, and check the refrigerant charge, the airflow and the drainage.
  5. We test it with you there, set up the thermostat and show you how it works.
  6. We clean up and leave you the paperwork: warranty, model numbers and permit.

Brands

We work with the major brands and help you pick the one that fits your home and your budget.

Commercial

For businesses

Offices, stores and restaurants run their AC longer and harder than homes do. We install and replace commercial split systems and ductless units, and we schedule the work around your hours.

FAQ

Questions

Is the estimate free?
Yes. We come out, measure and give you a written price, with no obligation.
How long does an install take?
Most home replacements take one day. Ductless systems usually take one to two days, depending on the number of rooms.
How much does a new AC cost?
It depends on the size, the type of system and the condition of your ducts. We give you a written price after we’ve measured, so the number fits your home and isn’t a guess over the phone.
Ducted or ductless?
If your home has ducts in good shape, central AC usually makes sense. For a room or an addition without ducts, a mini-split is simpler.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. Replacing an AC in Florida needs a permit. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
What happens to my old unit?
We haul it away and recover the refrigerant properly, as federal law requires.
